It is my privilege, as a clinical psychologist, to be able to work with people at the most profound cognitive and emotional levels. This is a privilege that I do not take lightly. It is my passion and duty to provide psychological support to those in distress. I pledge to work, as often as possible, within a multidisciplinary team for the benefit of my clients, including, for instance, a psychiatrist; an occupational therapist; a social worker; a physiotherapist; and more.
I ardently believe in treatments with scientific evidence for psychological conditions. I look forward to providing you, as a client, with a professional service and with superlative care.
CBT
I am an integrative therapist, although my main modalities of treatment are Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). I am trained in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), level II.
TRAUMA
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), level III, and Brain Working Recursive Therapy (EMDR), level I.
DBT
I am a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician TM, and I facilitate Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) groups every Monday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm at my practice in Sea Point.
In 1998, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities (French and Drama) at Rhodes University in Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown). I completed a Diploma in Marketing Communications in 1999 through the International Advertising Assocation.
Between 2001 and 20011, after completing a diploma recognised by the International Advertising Association, I pursued a career in sales and marketing in the book industry. During this time, I obtained parapsychological training Sophiatown Community Psychological Services for eight years prior to my formal studies in psychology. I furthered by studies by completing a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in psychology at the University of South Africa in 2011. My Master's degree in Clinical Psychology was obtained at the University of Johannesburg in 2013.
My internship year was served at the Free State Psychiatric Complex in Bloemfontein, and I fulfilled community service at the Botshobelo District Hospital outside of the city. In 2016, I designed and implemented the DBT programme at the new Akeso behavioural clinic in Umhlanga, Durban. I am currently in private practice as the Director of Cape Town Psychologists in Sea Point, where we share rooms with five other therapists and one psychiatrist. I regularly work in three other behavioural clinics: Palm Tree Clinic, Westbeach Clinic, and Vincent Palloti Life Path for patients with acute mental disorders.
In 2019, I founded the Kuthetha Nathi / Talk to Us non-profit counselling organisation, an outreach programme that provides low-cost counselling services to under-resourced communities. The head office is located at Sea Point High School. Further information can be found at www.kuthethanathi.com.
In 2025, I completed accreditation with the DBT-LBC Board of Accreditation as a Certified Clincian, which is based in Seattle, Washington. Currently, I am the only practitioner in South Africa to hold this prestigious accreditation.
